Festive Costumes

Happy Friday and almost Halloween Eve! What a beautiful weekend we have in store... finally cool weather and not the humid 80 degree heat we have had all week. My fingers are crossed that Halloween costumes are taken care of and everyone will stick with the one we bought weeks ago. Typically my daughter changes her mind the night before or day of and we are scurrying around the house trying to put something together after I have spent $$ on a costume. Hopefully we will just be working on spooking the yard up for our trick or treaters, carving the pumpkins, and attending some festive parties!
In case you are still looking for the perfect costume of course Martha Stewart has some adorable do it yourself costumes for children of all ages and adults on her website. These are some baby costumes that are too cute not to post!

I am off to work on some decorations and finish up a project for a client. If you have any special Halloween traditions I would love to hear, please do share!

A Few for the Day

Hello Monday, I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! I know it was beautiful here in NC and this morning I must say was one of the prettiest I have experienced this fall. I do love the time before daylight savings because you can experience sunrise and it not as painfully early as other times of the year.
Today I am all over the place, not so much physically but mentally. I have a few projects wrapping up, in the middle of another, and in the beginning stages of one that is so fun... I am eagerly on the hunt for the perfect accessories, furniture, and am excited about diving in!
I thought I would share what is on my mind and a few of my favorite things to start off the week.

Wallpaper

I need wallpaper for a powder room, so many choices, which one to choose?
Zebras, Orchids and Fireworks just to name a few.

Winged Headboards

I just can't get enough of this style headboard. Wing chairs originated in the late 1700's were designed to keep in heat from the fireplaces and built tall to shield a cold draft.  So chic in the bedroom as a headboard and maybe they will keep in a little heat as well.

Hillary Thomas Designs

Designer Hillary Thomas has mad design skills and her work is sensational and so inspiring. I love her use of color but also her ability to make the neutrals seem less than blase'. You may be able to catch some of her treasures left for sale on One King's Lane as she is the featured designer on their Tastemaker's Tag Sale until tomorrow.

The color pink one of my favorites so feminine but yet so powerful this month as we honor those who have been affected by breast cancer and advocate for them by raising money to fight this disease that has touched so many of us.

A Little Celebration

This weekend is the unofficial, "official" beginning to our holiday season. My son turns 4 on Sunday, Halloween, daughter's 6th birthday a week later, Thanksgiving, Christmas and then New Year's! Yep that is right, a lot of celebrating around here...I do love a good party!
I always turn to Sarah's Party Perfect when I am looking for a little inspiration for the kiddos parties. There are some fantastic kids parties out there, I mean wow! I always leave the site feeling so inadequate as a parent but definitely full of creative ideas. It is just the little things that make all the difference in everything we do.

This is one of my favorite fairy parties recently posted. Mushroom stools and adorable grass place mats, what Tinkerbell wouldn't adore this woodland party?

Like I said, it is the little things that make it special. In this case a small doe...
Happy Friday!

Orange Crush

I am swooning over this festive and fresh tablescape by Charlotte, NC event planner Ivy Robinson featured in the current issue of Charlotte Wedding magazine. Ivy is beyond talented and the weddings she designs are truly one of a kind!

Ivy puts her touch on a bunch of carnations transforming them into modern chic.

Layer it On

It was a beautiful weekend and the weather is amazing today although still a little warm for my taste! I love all the shorts and skirts for fall in rich textures such as tweed and luscious colors like camel. On days like this they are just so chic and when the weather is cooler throw on some tights and you are set. Here in the South this time of the year layering your wardrobe is essential with temperatures fluctuating throughout the day.

The same idea is true for spicing up your home for the season by layering with faux fur, cashmere, alpaca wool, and mohair accessories like throws, pillows or rugs. These accents can add a layer of depth and coziness to carry your rooms through the cool months.

Jonathan Adler has many gorgeous throws to choose from but these are 3 of my faves, the Richard Nixon, Zig Zag, and Peter are all 100% baby alpaca and excellent choices!

West Elm and William Sonoma Home have to die for pillows in faux fur and other yummy textures.
William Sonoma Home has this unique and one of a kind Suzani Oushak rug that was reinterpreted from the original design of the legendary David Easton.

As I mentioned in my previous post I was in High Point, NC for Furniture Market over the weekend. Always a pleasure to go and see the new along with the old. Soon I will post about my tour of Drexel Heritage, their amazing showroom and the vision behind the design of their newest collections. In the meantime here are a few shots of  some of the lovelies at market. Enjoy!
